2-40 and 2-15: the difference

Florida's 2-40 is a Health-only licence. The 2-15 is Life, Health & Variable Annuity and also permits health business. Both are administered by the Florida Department of Financial Services and both are public records — which is why the directory below indexes by licence category rather than by job title.

What to check before you sign anything

• The licence is active — look it up on the FL DFS registry by name or licence number.
• Carrier appointments. Health plans are sold through carrier appointments; an agent can only quote plans from carriers who have appointed them.
• Marketplace versus off-exchange. These are different products with different enrolment rules. Ask which the agent is appointed for.
